lye bow gardens
Seven years ago when I was travelling the South Island on my motorbike I stumbled across Central Otago. It claimed my heart and six months later I bought Lye Bow, an historic property in the rural outskirts of Alexandra. In the 1860s when the gold ran out Li Bao (Lye Bow) established an orchard and market garden here. It has had many incarnations since, including a rustic crib, a commercial alpine nursery, a family home, and now under my care, a small Bed & Breakfast.
about these works
Being a large historic property the gardens are extensive and diverse. Each previous owner has added and developed the gardens, adding a piece of themselves. These mixed media studies are based on my gardening life here at Lye Bow, and my connection to all of its previous caretakers.
Each work is 200mm x 200mm on redline 9mm plywood. Materials used include; gesso, acrylic paint, watercolour, ink, chalk, pastel, pencil, gold / silver foil
